Is Fire The Right Tool for Your Job?

Thursday March 28th, 5-6:30pm

Virtual Event

This is a virtual event produced by Sonoma State University’s Center for Environmental Inquiry and sponsored by the Mendocino County Firesafe Council. It will focus on helping landowners and managers assess their land for prescribed, or controlled, burning, as well as determining if fire is the right tool for their land management job.

This virtual event takes place on Thursday, March 28 from 5pm-6:30pm via Zoom

Presenters will show the impact of fire on a landscape – looking at videos of a variety of landscapes and learning from our experts how to read those landscapes and assess whether fire might be able to improve safety, or the health of native species, or meet other land management objectives.

Presenters:

Sasha Berleman is the director of Fire Forward, a project of Marin County’s Audubon Canyon Ranch that trains and supports community members to be self-sufficient in prescribed burning on their properties.

Andres Avila is the fire chief of the Anderson Valley Fire Department with years of experience in prescribed burning in Mendocino County.
