Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the Anderson Valley Village? Anderson Valley Village (AVV) is a non-profit organization empowering older adults to remain active, interconnected, and independent in the place they call home. We ease some of the challenges of aging by organizing services such as running errands and minor home repairs. We enhance the quality of life in our community by facilitating friendships, working with other local groups, and encouraging our Valley’s long tradition of multi-generational activities.

Q2: How is the Anderson Valley Village related to other Villages around the country? The Anderson Valley Village has grown from the national Villages’ movement. Each Village is different, designed to fit the needs of its individual community. Villages are membership-driven, grassroots, non-profit organizations that:

  • are run by volunteers and paid staff
  • coordinate access to volunteers and services for hire
  • provide wellness programs, educational activities, and community events
  • promote health, independence, and interdependence
  • are an investment in your community and your future

For more information, check out this short video compiled by and about other Villages.

Q3: How does our AV Village work? AVV has hired a Coordinator to recruit volunteers and develop a list of services-for-hire. These services can be requested by members using the AVV website or by calling the Coordinator. AVV is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors from the community. The membership fees fund the Village Coordinator position.

Q4: How do I become a member? Membership is open to all Anderson Valley residents who are 50 years or older (or are joining with a spouse or partner who is 50 years or older). Membership forms are available from the Village Coordinator or can be downloaded by clicking here.

Q5: Who might be interested in joining the AV Village?

  •           Anderson Valley residents who want to help create a new model for aging.
  •           AV seniors who could use some support in order to remain independent.
  •           Community members who want to maintain the multi-generational, inter-dependent traditions of the Valley that we call home.

Q6: How much does it cost? The fees are $25 a month (or $275 a year) per individual, and $40 a month (or $440 a year) per couple.

Q7: Is there open enrollment? Yes. You can join whenever you like.

Q8: How do I volunteer? Volunteers are welcome to provide all manner of help, from basic chores, transportation and errands to check-in calls and visits to skilled services. It’s up to you how, and how often, to volunteer. Forms are available from the Village Coordinator or can be downloaded from this website by clicking here.
